Wilga Park Jalapeno sold to Terri Pinney ....

"Brats on Tour" - Jo and Judy's Visit ...

Beerwah Charity Show Day ...

Gold Coast Show .....

A Cortez baby is born ...

Elle doesn't mind being ridden bareback either ...

Wilga Park Jalapeno (aka PJ) has been sold to an outstanding horsewoman. We are so very proud to have this young colt go to such a home as he will have with Terri Pinney. Terri is level 3 in Parelli language and trains her horses beautifully. Jalapeno is destined for a fantastic career in the Show Ring and will be Awesome under saddle.

My riding Instructor, Linda, is most annoyed that this young colt left our paddock. She had dreams of starting and campaigning him one day. A dream I shared ... but if he had to leave my paddock, I can't think of a better home for Jalapeno to go to.

Jo and Judy, 'The Brats' from Victoria visited Qld recently and we had a ton of fun with them. Judy jumped on or handled every Morgan she came across and Jo took lots of fantastic photos. Jo's stud is Haymeron Park and Judy's is Samaria Creek. We have a lovely Haymeron Park mare in our paddock, Ruby Jane aka RJ. We also have another Karenza Apollo baby in our paddock, Indigo Roc the Boat. Rocky and Jo had a bit of a snuggle on their first morning here.

Judy enjoyed our horses tremendously. She rode two of our pregnant mares ... both of which I'd been on, bareback, recently. Both RJ and Calypso were impressive in their responses to Judy and it was a pleasure to watch them having fun together. Our mares are a constant delight to us. Allowing someone to jump on their back after years of not being ridden and responding as if they had been ridden continually, is awesome.

Ruby Jane and Judy admiring themselves in the mirror, and Judy and Calypso trotting out.

RanchBoss Cortez was also impressive. I was more than impressed to watch Judy ride him from a walk, to trot into canter, circling the arena a number of times, and then taking Cortez back to trot and into a square halt ... all with no hands!! Cortez simply listened to Judy's body language. After showing off their tricks in the arena, Cortez and Judy went bush bashing for a short while ... Cortez does love the hills!

Beerwah Charity Show Day was an excellent outing for the Queensland Morgans. We travelled the 2 1/2 hours to be there and it was well worth the trip. Cortez won the Supreme of all Supreme Dilutes (after winning Supreme Champion Buckskin) and caused quite a lot of interest. Many people came up to us to ask about him and the breed. Comments like .... "So this must be the Buckskin Morgan Stallion everyone has been asking me if I've seen!" makes you realise that he caused quite a bit of conversation in the crowd.

Wilga Park Malaynee and Wilga Park Madagascar, two of our progeny, were also presented at the Beerwah Show. It makes us feel so very, very proud when we see the babies that we have bred doing so well with their respective owners.

Tim Wong led Maddy out in the pure gelding class and was sashed with the second ribbon. The absolute best part of the class was the Judge's comments on Maddy. Being only 2 1/2 years old, and still filling out, it was great to hear the Judge being so complimentary on how he felt Maddy was going to mature. Maddy is Sporthorse material!

Maddy is now at his new Trainer's place to be started and from all reports is doing extremely well. He really only needed to be backed as Lisa has already done all the ground work necessary. I think her Trainer will find it a very easy task after normally starting Warmbloods for Lisa.

It is wonderful to think that Madagascar will be our 4th baby under saddle. Wilga Park progeny are certainly beginning to get out there to impress the public on the temperament of the Morgan Horse.

Maddy and Tim at Beerwah Show

Malaynee was a super star at the Beerwah Show. She was Champion Morgan mare, and this was no easy win. Her two competitors were beautiful Morgan mares, who could reside in our paddock any old day of the week and we wouldn't complain. Malaynee also took out third place in the ridden Morgan Class. She looked stunning!! Helena Shanal, her trainer, was on board and both Jane, Malaynee's owner, and we were busting our buttons off our shirts with pride.

Mt Tawonga Nepean was taken out again for the first time in ages. He certainly enjoyed the attention and we were very lucky to have Lynda Kingdom offer to ride Nepean for us in the Ridden Morgan class. Lynda is brand new owner of the young stallion, Wirraway Johnny Walker, a stunning young colt, who in the year to come is going to give our Cortez and his close competitor, Watching Royalty, a run for their money, in the Stallion classes.

Gold Coast Show was held the very next weekend after Beerwah, so the horses were in Show mode. A little easier than the previous weekend, as our horses are actually paddock horses and not kept in Show Condition at all. The washing time was cut down by half! :-) ... and the tack was fairly clean from the weekend before!! Thank Heavens they present fairly well, even though they live in the paddock and not the stables!!

We had an equally successful weekend at the Gold Coast Show. After being Reserve Champion Morgan Stallion, Cortez managed the Supreme of Supreme Dilutes yet again, and I managed to score 1st in the ridden Morgan Class on him as well as Reserve Champion Ridden Dilute .... that was a little tough, given our short riding career together! Cortez is such a gem to ride ... he wants to please his rider every second that he is with you. I had a lot of fun!

Greg being an excellent Strapper after running Cortez out for Supreme Champion Dilute

Wilga Park Malaynee was Champion Mare again and Mt Tawonga Nepean was Champion Gelding. As well as Champion Mare, Malaynee was a very close second to Cortez in the ridden Morgan Class pipping her paddock mate, Red Bluff Opal, for a change. Some photos below from the day ....

Greg and Cortez ... a fantastic relationship exists between these two!!

Cortez was privileged last year to have a few outside mares on his books and we are very proud to announce the arrival of his super buckskin filly from the Thoroughbred mare known as Samara. This filly was born just two days before the Gold Coast Show. Leanne from Kingaroy has sent in some photos from the first day of birth. This filly is going to be an excellent size, with great bone and is beautiful to boot!! She has been named Jamala Flame. Jamala meaning "naturally beautiful" - it suits her so well!

We look forward to our next few months. We have 6 babies on the way, the first being a colt from Marrella on 27 October and then a filly from our Elegance (Mt Tawonga Natasha) two weeks later, in early November.

Just last week I decided that Elegance could do with a bareback ride as well as Calypso and RJ... she has been missing the attention one gives to the riding horses ... and here is the evidence of how beautifully this 'Once Was a Dressage Queen, Performance Horse' handled it all. She is just a superb mare!
