January 2008 More breaking News for January .... Eagleview Skybeau (Calypso) in foal to Ragtime Oro Blanco (aka Casper); Mt Tawonga Natasha's filly foal is born: and colour genetics on Eagleview Skybeau, Wilga Park Serjania, Mt Tawonga Marrella and Red Bluff Paprika. We all held our breath, and three sets of eyes (Greg's, mine and Robyn, the Vet's) were glued to the ultrasound screen as Robyn did the 15 day pregnancy test on Calypso. As that tell tale little black dot appeared on the screen, all you could hear was the huge sigh of expired air, and all you could see were three people standing, staring at the screen with silly grins on their faces! Not a word was spoken until we all, individually, accepted the fact that Yes, Indeed, Calypso was pregnant to Casper!! What an asolute relief! With three unsuccessful attempts with three other mares, we were anticipating the worst, but oh, so hopeful of the best outcome.
Eagleview Skybeau - in foal to Ragtime Oro Blanco Sire: Marvelous Encore Dam: Mt Tawonga Bea Calypso is due to foal down around 08 December 2008. We will do the sexing ultrasound at around 53 days of pregnancy. As Calypso's colour testing came back as Ee aa (one black and one chestnut gene, no bay genes) this baby can be any of the following colours with Casper as the sire (Ee Aa CrCr Dn) ... buckskin, dunskin, smokey black or palomino. Can't get much better than that in a colour range. Wilga Park Serjania (aka Jack) has also had his colour testing completed and we could not be more ecstatic with the result. This superb, stallion material boy, is a Smokey Black. For those who understand the colour genetics, he is EE aa Crn ... Whoooo Hoooooo!! A Black horse, with no chestnut gene, and with the cream gene thrown on top!! With his super conformation and the soft, gentle temperament of his Dad, RanchBoss Cortez, this foal is superb!
Sire: RanchBoss Cortez Dam: Eagleview Skybeau Mt Tawonga Natasha (Elegance) foaled down a week early on 22 January 2008. The exquisite black filly, Wilga Park Chambourcin (pronounced Sham-ber-sen), arrived at 12.45pm and is the prettiest filly I have seen in a long time. Chambourcin is a grape that makes a wine that is 'deeply coloured, has a foxy flavour, is strong on it's own, is versatile, is zestful and assertive' ... words that describe this get of RanchBoss Cortez and Elegance, succinctly. This filly had been reserved in-utero and the terms of the contract gave the purchaser a 14 day cooling-off period from the day of birth. As it happens, the purchaser has taken the option not to buy. We will colour test this little girl in three weeks time as she may turn out to be a smokey black just like Wilga Park Serjania (Jack). This filly is so typey that if she proves not to have the cream gene, we will seriously consider keeping her for our own breeding program with Ragtime Oro Blanco. We will keep you posted in the next Latest News update.
Wilga Park Chambourcin - 3 days
Wilga Park Chambourcin - 4 days Wilga Park Madagascar, our buckskin yearling gelding, has been chosen by Tim Wong as a riding horse. Tim chose him for his gentle temperament: he loves his colour and the fact that he will grow to 15+hh. Congratulations, Tim on what we consider an excellent choice. Madagascar has a typical Morgan nature and will provide you with many hours of pleasure.
Wilga Park Madagascar with his new owner, Tim Wong. Mt Tawonga Marrella and Red Bluff Paprika have been genetically tested for the Agouti (bay) gene and both carry one of these. We did this test to see if they were hiding one, or two, or no agouti gene. This helps us determine the possible colour of the foals that these two lovely mares will give us from RanchBoss Cortez and Ragtime Oro Blanco. What a tremendously eventful January .... read on for the earlier January news! Foals on the way for 2008! ... and.... Colour Genetics for Haymeron Park Ruby Jane and Mt Tawonga Natasha (aka Elegance) Mt Tawonga Marrella and Red Bluff Paprika are in foal to RanchBoss Cortez and due around 30th November 2008. We are looking forward to seeing the result of the Cortez/Marrella cross. Marrella has produced two quality foals with two different stallions so far and Cortez and she should combine genetics beautifully to produce an outstanding foal.
Mt Tawonga Marrella Sire: Wawayanda WatchOut Dam: Aura Dell Misty
Red Bluff Paprika Sire: Taproot Messenger Dam: Mt Tawonga Evonne Marrella and Paprika due together around 30 November 2008! Red Bluff Paprika produced a buckskin gelding with Cortez in 2006 and the cross is awesome. A repeat performance will please us greatly. Previous foals from both these mares can be veiwed on the Foals Page. Haymeron Park Ruby Jane will have the ultra-sound about 21 January for confirmation of pregnancy to Cortez. We are very pleased with this change of plan, as Ruby Jane and Cortez are both in the elite group classed as Foundation Morgans. Ruby Jane is one of the 12.6% of Morgan mares, registered since 2000, who qualify to be classed as Foundation Morgans and RanchBoss Cortez is one of 13.1% of Morgan stallions registered since then, who qualify.
Haymeron Park Ruby Jane Sire: Karenza Apollo Dam: Karenza Amethyst Eagleview Skybeau with her foal, Serjania, at foot, went off to the Breeding Centre to try for a Ragtime Oro Blanco baby for 2008. Yes, this is a total turn-around from December news ... but that's circumstance for you!! Our initial plan had been to try this cross for 2008 and circumstance, with all it's twists and turns, has made that plan come to fruition. We and our breeding Vet are so pleased the insemination was successful. Now for the 53 day sexing ultrasound to determine whether a filly or colt will be born around 8th December!!!
Eagleview Skybeau (aka Calypso) with Serjania (aka Jack) Mt Tawonga Natasha (Elegance) and Haymeron Park Ruby Jane - colour genetics Finally, we pulled mane hairs and sent them off to Animal Genetics. You may wonder why we would want two bay mares tested for the agouti (bay) gene and the black/red gene. We wanted to know the possibility of these mares giving us black foals or (with Ragtime Oro Blanco only) palomino foals. Ruby Jane has tested as EE AA (two black genes and two bay genes), which means she will only ever produce bay or buckskin foals for us with Cortez and Ragtime Oro Blanco. Natasha (Elegance) will give us much more variety. She has tested Ee Aa (one black and one red gene, and only one bay gene), which means with Cortez she can produce black, smokey black, bay or buckskin foals and with Casper (Oro Blanco) she can give us smokey black, buckskin or palomino. We have added a link on our links page to the colour genetics web site for those who are keen to see what colour their mare may produce. Elegance is due to foal down with her Cortez baby on 28 January and we are hoping for a buckskin filly. This mare and stallion should produce a foal with superb style and elegance.
