June - July 2009 Wilga Park Golden Ash Started under saddle .... The Broome Connection .... Wilga Park Serjania (aka Jack) in his new home... Eagleview Skybeau continues to amaze me ... Hillary Lafayette-Wiles visit from the USA ... Wilga Park Jalapeno and Golden Glory have fun in the paddock ... The Broome Connection!!!! Wilga Park Golden Ash (aka Flynn) has been started by a phenomenal horsewoman, Kellie Stewart of Saltriver Performance Horses in WA. Ash lives in Broome along with his paternal half-sister, Wilga Park Summer Beauty (aka Chance). The owners of Chance and Ash are close friends, so these two get to hang out together ... fabulous! as they were born just days apart and spent their young months together. From Sue, Flynn's owner .... "Some quotes from Kellie.....He is light and soft, responsive, balanced. A good-minded horse! He just wanted to please and 'holds' nothing, eg resentment, in him. When I emailed her this week to thank her for all that we learnt she said it was "a delight to work with him"....wow...this is a woman who has started approx 1000 horses and just spent 6 weeks on invitation with Ray Hunt in the USA!! Kellie also stated that if she was to go for a Stockman's Challenge, she'd pick a Morgan to do it with!! I've been thinking a lot this week about his amazing response to being ridden and my reading of it is...he so much wants to hang out with the human that he sees it as having a totally close and captive companion.. Thank you for this special horse, I love that he is always inviting some interaction, and he gets that soft dopey expression in his eyes at a rub/scratch....and follows me around...I couldn't be happier!" Golden Ash and Kellie Stewart of Saltriver Performance Horses - and his owner, Sue These photos were taken in Ash's second and third hour under saddle, in as many days!!! Wilga Park Summer Beauty and Ash have spent some time together since they both arrived in Broome. Ash left us at 6 months of age to go to his new owners, so he and Summer had not seen each other for two years. When Sue then purchased Ash, we were so pleased that these two would be together again, as they were inseparable as babies. Tammy-Lee, Summer's owner and Sue are best buddies and have kept us up to date with the news. Summer is growing into a beautiful young mare. She will be so much like her Dam, Eableview Skybeau when she fills out! Wilga Park Summer Beauty and Golden Ash - meeting after 2 years separation.
A beautiful shot of these two friends Wilga Park Serjania (aka Jack), is also happy in his new home with Jan in Victoria. Jack, one of my very favourite foals from Eagleview Skybeau, is enjoying a wonderful life with his new owner, Jan. Jan sends me the occassional photo as she knows I have a real soft spot for this boy ... he is one I would have liked to have had time to ride myself. Here is a photo of a very happy Jack in his paddock on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
Wilga Park Serjania - Jack - 17mths old in Victoria
Eagleview Skybeau (Calypso) mother of Summer Beauty (Chance) and of Serjania (Jack) will hold my heart forever. This marvelous mare surprises me and enchants me whenever I have anything to do with her. I went into the paddock with a halter, with the intention of riding my Oscar, who has been unwell, and I wanted to check his fitness levels ... but Calypo captured my attention and, instead, I slipped the halter on her. We made our way to the arena and this mare ... words fail me ... gave me the most beautiful experience one could have with a horse. Calypso is 7 months pregnant, having recently weaned Jalapeno. She has done nothing but deliver us beautiful foals for the last 4 years and, as she lost her first foal at 8 mths, she has been out of work for 6 years. However, she immediately slipped into Riding Horse mode - and you could almost feel the 'smile' from her. She enjoyed our little jaunt as much as I did. She had not forgotten a thing and took pride in showing me just how well she could do her sidepasses, back-ups and turns of the forehand and quarters. She trotted around the arena, feeling so proud of herself ... and I sat there feeling completely overwhelmed wth her instant responses. If I was to ever think of riding a horse bridleless, she would be my first pick ... Oscar runs a very close second!! :)
Eagleview Skybeau (Calypso) my very first Morgan! We have recently had a visit from the USA! Hillary Lafayette-Wiles is the American Morgan Horse Associations' Ambassador and she competed against a number of fine contestants to win her trip to Australia. She chose Australia as her country to visit and we hosted her for a few days. What a wonderful girl!! Hillary rode our stallion, Cortez, whilst she was here and her comment was ... I have never ridden such a beautifully responsive horse!! What a great compliment to Cortez that is!! This Lass has won her way to Australia by winning (along with other sections) a ridden class at the huge World Championships in Oklahoma, USA!!! Cortez can feel very proud!! On a final note, I would like to share with you some photos of our two babies, Jalapeno and Glory ... growing into beautiful Morgans. Jalapeno certainly is a Performance Horse ... he is just meant to be in the Dressage arena ... and Glory is the most perfect western girl ... campdrafing or cutting would be this girl's bent .. and she would excel!!
