March 2008

The two black foals are growing superbly.

Wilga Park Summer Beauty and Mt Tawonga Oscar have fun with Tammy.

Wilga Park Madagascar leaves home.

Mt Tawonga Oscar excels himself at competition. Read on for more details!

Wilga Park Serjania (Jack) and Wilga Park Chambourcin are growing into superb young horses. Next to buckskin, black is our favourite colour, and to have two extremely nice black babies, one also with the cream gene, is like being handed First Prize in the Breeding Stakes!

Chambourcin & Serjania - with their best mate, Chase, the Border Collie.

WP Serjania, Jack, has a gentle, people-loving personality and will always saunter over to us to ask for a scratch. He is now 12 weeks old and we believe he will finish well over 15hh. His size, conformation, super temperament and colour genetics make it almost impossible to geld this young colt.

As a stallion, like his Sire, he would never produce a chestnut foal, even to a chestnut mare. Depending on the colour genetics of the mare, Jack would produce black, smokey black and, though he doesn't carry a bay gene, if the mare did, bay or buckskin foals.

WP Chambourcin is a filly with a very outgoing, confident personality. She would be the life of the party in human terms, where-as Jack would sit quietly back and admiringly allow her to take the limelight. Chambourcin likes to be first in the line-up for scratches and cuddles. She is now 6 weeks old and filling out to be a very substantial filly.

Wilga Park Summer Beauty, just 15 months old, had a little training with our friend Tammie. Tammie completed a Clinton Anderson 3 day Clinic and the skills she learned there, along with her continuous Parelli style work with RM, her gorgeous Morgan gelding, have made her an awesome horsewoman with a young horse. Tammie volunteered to help prepare Summer Beauty for the Toowoomba Royal Show, coming up in April 08, so we readily agreed.

The photos below show Tammie working with Summer and getting her ready to have her first rug.

Mt Tawonga Oscar has been out on a number of Trail rides with Tammie as well. Both Nepean, our School Master, and Oscar, my Elementary Dressage horse, need a little weight reduction, and Tam has devoted some time to having fun on these two boys.

Nepean is such an energetic, enthusiastic horse out on the Trail, unbeknownst to the kids who learn to ride on this 'plodder' in the arena! And Oscar finds a real freedom and loves to stretch out on the Trail, as well! Tammie has heaps of fun on both Nepean and Oscar. She tells me she just feels so 'Safe' on these boys!

And that's what Morgans are all about! Having safe, fun rides - no matter what the agenda!

Wilga Park Madagascar, just 14 months old, left home last weekend to go live with his new family at Caboolture, Queensland. I was so proud of this youngster as he was introduced to a horse float for the very first time. He walked straight on and backed out slowly when he was asked.

He did it so well a number of times that Lisa & Tim decided to see if he would self-load. Yup! Sure enough, he walked on with the lead rope slung over his back. What a champion! He travelled well for the 2 1/2 hour trip and has settled in with his paddock mate. We will see Maddie again when he comes back for the Toowoomba Royal Show in April.

Mt Tawonga Oscar and I shook the mothballs from our competition gear and ventured out to try our expertise at an Elementary Dressage test recently. It was the first competition since our very first Elementary way back in August 07 - a week before EI broke out in Australia and caused a complete National Lockdown on movement of horses.

Oscar did me proud! He scored a fantastic 63.03% with a 9/10 for his canter/walk/canter transition. He is my Super Hero!! I am looking forward to another year of learning with my ever-so-willing, gentle dance partner in the art of Dressage.
