The Morgan Breed Spectacular and the Toowoomba Royal - our Morgans did us Proud!

Wilga Park Summer Beauty aka Chance is under saddle!!

Wilga Park Golden Ash and Wilga Park Madagascar are on their home ground for a weekend together.

The Breed Spectacular at the Toowoomba Royal Show was a first for Morgans in Australia and it was only through the commitment of a wonderful bunch of people, and the willingness of our brilliant Morgans that made it happen.

A 40m X 20m sand arena was set up especially for Breed Societies to show off their Breed to the crowd. We decided it would be a perfect opportunity to have some fun and to show off the temperament and talent of our Morgans, so 8 weeks before the Show, we got together with other Morgan owners in South-east Queensland to work out some routines we might do to entertain the people.

The enthusiasm from everyone was overwhelming. We had 25 minutes to show off the horses and it was done beautifully. From stockhorse workouts, bareback riding, standing up on the horse and cracking a whip, Pas De Deux Dressage and long reining ... and the Finale ... a Quadrille - and all to music!! Oscar had three riders on the day ... four if you count the Border Collie, Chase.

A pictorial of the event .... and these were just our Morgans ... there were another 5 Morgans there as well.

Swapping riders, Nepean and Oscar piggy-back Cloey and Chase the dog ... and then both horses join the Quadrille

It was a magnificent display of our Morgans and we have been fortunate enough to have the Board of the Association sponsor the professional production of a DVD of the whole event. These DVD's are for sale to interested people for a mere $35 including postage in Australia.

Toowoomba Royal - I will again let the photos tell the story ... RanchBoss Cortez went out on two days of the Royal Show. He came home on the first day with Reserve Champion Buckskin and Reserve Champion Ridden Dilute and then on Saturday, was Reserve Champion Morgan and first in the ridden Morgan Class. We are so very lucky to have such beautiful horses.

Mt Tawonga Nepean & Tam 3rd in the ridden (but 1st in the Gelding Led Class), Indigo Roc the Boat (Rocky) 6th

Wilga Park Summer Beauty (Chance), Cortez's first filly foal in Australia, has just made a huge leap in her education. She has been residing at Salt River Performance Horses in WA since she was purchased as a yearling, and Heath Stewart had the pleasure of backing her very recently. This has been a day Chance's owner has been really hanging out for.

A brief report from Tammy- Lee ... "Heath was on her for all of 10 mins in total -  the canter part was just to get her moving out – two lots of about 20 strides.   I rode her the next two days and we did about 2 laps of the arena (about dressage size) each day – walk, trot, canter – so very minimal.  Just so she had an idea before she came home.  When she gets here she will have 4-5 rides and then get left to grow until next year.  Just some ponying out off the other horse, baths, brushing, general groundwork.   Love it that she is still so tiny – don’t care if she doesn’t get any taller (though I know she will).  Love her length of rein, everything really.  She did it all effortlessly, a little bit of worry – the ‘what are you doing?’ and then ‘well ok then’.   She really seems very mature minded – doesn’t mind leaving her buddies, doesn’t mind being left behind if they go, happy to be tied up by herself while I do her feet.  It’s also good that when she gets here she has already been in a paddock with Rev (stockhorse who went to Perth last year), and my old quarter horse loves all the girls, so hopefully she will settle quite quickly.'

Chance will travel home to live with Tammy-Lee in Broome now that she has had the basic start. In fact she will be arriving at a similar time to young Golden Ash, (Cortez's first foal, born 3 days before Chance).

Heath and Chance having their first canter - Heath is a tad big for Chance so wasn't on board for long.

We feel very fortunate that Tammy-Lee has chosen one of our babies as her lifetime Morgan. Summer (Chance) will have a very fortunate life, indeed!

Wilga Park Golden Ash and Wilga Park Madagascar just happened to be here at the same time; Ash awaiting his trip to WA and Maddy for the Toowoomba Royal. Lisa, Maddy's owner suggested it would be nice to put the two boys together and compare them ... seeing as they were born just 5 weeks apart. What a wonderful idea that was, as I now have a photo or two of both our boys as two year olds. You would think they'd never been apart, as they accepted each other immediately.
