RanchBoss Cortez on U-Tube ...

Catching up with Wilga Park Progeny ...

Mt Tawonga Nepean teaching the kids how it is done ...

See Cortez under saddle ...

RanchBoss Cortez is now featured on U-tube and we have mastered the art of putting it into our web site for your perusal. We hope you enjoy it. The tip is to let it load whilst you read the rest of the news. It is 7 minutes long, but, we think, worth the wait. Cortez looks forward to being taken out from his paddock these days ... it is usually to go talk with a lovely mare, rather than be saddled up for some exercise. He is really enjoying the Spring season.

Haymeron Park Ruby Jane has, sadly, lost her beautiful Cortez foal. He was a lovely little buckskin colt, born 7 weeks early due to an infection in the placenta. He was to be our first Foundation Morgan born to Wilga Park. It was a very sad day indeed. Ruby Jane, aka RJ, foaled at 4.10am on Saturday 15 November, after a week of us trying to save the pregnancy ... but by 6.00am, though we tried with oxygen and a drip, the little fella began to convulse, so we immediatley asked the Vet to give him the injection to put him to sleep. It was quick, but it was heartbreaking.

Haymeron Park Ruby Jane

RJ was the most amazing mare. She stood and nibbled little bucky's soft hooves and nuzzled and nudged him with her nose, but allowed us to do all that we could to help him. We left them together afterwards and she stood guard over him for a long while. When she finally began to move away for periods of time to go eat some grass, we took the little buckskin boy away to be buried and then moved her out with the rest of the herd, so that she would move about. It was heart wrenching to watch her search for her baby all afternoon. She would move away from the herd and stand tall, head held high, and snuff the air for some hint of where her baby might be. So very sad.

We also had Mt Tawonga Marrella checked as she did not seem to be doing what she should for a mare so advanced in pregnancy ... and sure enough, she had also lost her foal, but obviously very early in her pregnancy. We now only have Eagleview Skybeau and Paprika to deliver us foals in early December.

Skybeau will give us a coloured colt from Ragtime Oro Blanco and Paprika should deliver us a filly from RanchBoss Cortez ... but it's a guessing game for colour with the filly ... it may be black, or bay or buckskin.

We recently caught up with some of the Wilga Park babies from previous years and it was wonderul to see them growing into such lovely young horses.

Wilga Park Malaynee and Wilga Park Tippuhana were born in the same year by outside stallions. Malaynee is by the 14'2hh Lippitt stallion, Karenza Malanion, and is being trained in the full Parelli method. Her owner, Jane, loves riding her. She is so intelligent Jane has to be really creative to think up new ways of keeping her interested, as she learns just so quickly.

Wilga Park Malaynee, just three years old

Wilga Park Tippuhana by Mt Tawonga Tarraji, a 15'1hh athletic black stallion, has begun her training under saddle with Linda Shore. Linda is extremely pleased with her. Tip is having a spell whilst she has her teeth done and has a visit to the Chiropractor. That normally happens prior to the starting process, but we were not quite prepared this time. I look forward to my first ride on Tippuhana. She looks to have a wonderful canter. I'm not sure how I'm going to find the time to ride Tip, Rocky and the wonderful Oscar .... good thing it is summer and there is lots of daylight!

Wilga Park Golden Ash is looking super as a two year old. He is going to be very much like his sire RanchBoss Cortez, but takes after his Dam, Red Bluff Paprika, in movement, and will make a fantastic cutting or camp drafting horse. He has enjoyed his time with his owners Kerry and Ike, as he's been allowed to just be a horse and learn from the other horses in the herd. It will soon be time to begin work with Ash. He obviously knows that humans are rather nice to be around. When Greg went to visit, Ash left the herd immediately to come say hello and get a scratch. Ash, as a youngster, used to follow Greg everywhere in the paddock, as he worked.

Wilga Park Golden Ash - almost 2 yrs old

Wilga Park Summer Beauty was born within days of Ash, and we were lucky enough to catch up with her recently as well. She reminds us of her Dam, Eagleview Skybeau, as a youngster. She will grow into a real beauty ... she will be just like Skybeau, aka Calypso, only in bay. Summer is living a life of luxury at Salt River Performance Horses in Western Australia and her owner, Tammy, will have the pleasure of starting her along with Kelly Stewart of Salt River. Summer, aka Chance, will have the absolute best start in life with Kelly and Tam doing the job.

Mt Tawonga Nepean has also been busy giving some young great-nieces and nephews riding lessons. Nepean is so very kind to let the kids become accomplished and confident on his back.
