Saturday 02 September 2006 - Gold Coast Centenary Show!! A huge three-day event! What a milestone for RanchBoss Cortez!!

We were invited by one of the Assistant Ring Masters of the Gold Coast Show to take Cortez to the Centenary Show. The invitation came after she had judged him at a Dressage Competition. We decided to take up the invitation and were so very pleased that we did.

Apart from winning Champion Morgan, we entered Cortez into the Registered Buckskin classes. We had him registered within hours before the show...internet banking, e-mail and the ability to scan documents and e-mail them is a fabulous thing!! He is now a registered Buckskin Stallion with the United Palomino, White, Buckskin and Dun Assoc. of Australia.

Greg says he feels like he's won the Melbourne Cup!!

Cortez just 'wowed' them all day long and people kept taking photos of him and asking about him, even when I was trying to video the classes he was in! His achievements on the day were:

Morgan class:

  • Champion Morgan Stallion

Buckskin Classes:

  • 2nd - Best Presented Buckskin (just goes to show even as amateur 'showies' we can deliver a nicely presented horse!)
  • 1st - Best common Dilute (First shiver of excitement for the day)
  • 1st - Buckskin Stallion 4 yrs and over - (A suck in your breath moment and that little word, "YESSSS!" coming out as the air is released!! Had no thought of winning as there were 6 other lovely buckskin stallions in the line-up)

Then, immediately, without further ado...

  • Champion Buckskin Stallion!

Our chests were starting to expand far more than possible (or necessary) by now!

Greg kept thinking it was all over and he and Cortez could go back to the float for a coffee and a haybag, but I had to keep reminding them both that it wasn't over yet! If they continued to get 1st place and then Champion, they had to stick around for the Supreme Champion Class. So they both groaned and had snoozes standing up while they waited for the next call.

The next 'jump up and down inside but remain calm & composed on the outside' moment was when he was in the line-up of all the Buckskin Champions and the judge called him out as:

  • SUPREME CHAMPION BUCKSKIN - and this is against all breeds!!!! Quarter Horse, Arab, Shetland, Mini-Pony etc - Awesome!!!!

This Champion of Champions just blows us away!! His beautiful nature really showed through; people were stunned at how well mannered and docile this boy was. He certainly stood up and showed 'em he was a stallion worth looking at, and in the softest, kindest, non-threatening way, he had them all in love with him. Greg fell in love all over again as well!

Then folks ... we had just enough time to give Cortez a big drink and a bite to eat whilst we fussed over him cleaning sand and grit off his legs and giving him a final brush before we headed off to Centre Ring for the Supreme Champion Led Horse of the Show. We knew there was no hope of taking that out - many, many other fabulous horses where in that line up, and they had 10 judges from all the different Rings judge them.

Though he didn't take that Trophy home, we had two judges approach us afterwards at different time - one to tell us that we should know that he had scored very, very highly (another glow of pride spreads through the system!) and she asked for a brochure as she was interested in possibly putting her mare who'd won...wait for it...'National Horse of the Year'...to him!!!!! Our buttons where popping off our shirts by now!!!

RanchBoss Cortez is worth his weight in Gold!

Toowoomba Regional Championships and the Stallion Parade

We recently had the Regional Dressage Championships here in Toowoomba and...nah!!...no first ribbons or prizes, but what a great weekend we had. It was exhausting and exhilarating.
